Common Fashion Mistakes That Every Girl Makes

STYLEBrooke SnyderComment

1. Always buying the same size clothes.

Sizing is extremely different when it comes to shopping, especially for women's clothes. Don't pay too much attention to the actual size or number. Instead go for what fits you the best and what you feel the most comfortable in.

2. Washing your jeans every time you wear them.

Levi's CEO, Chip Bergh, says that machine washing your jeans is totally unnecessary, but in reality you should only be washing your jeans once for every 4-5 times you wear them. The main reason you shouldn't be washing your jeans every time you wear them is actually to conserve water. Levi Str auss & Co. estimates that each pair of jeans uses about 919 gallons of water usage during its whole lifespan- half from cotton growing and the other half from regularly washing them.

3. Showing too much to feel sexy.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that the more you show the sexier you are. That is the farthest thing from true! You can feel and look sexy with wearing more, rather than less. If you want a sexy, yet not too flashy look, then try out a slightly sheer top with a cute bralette underneath.

4. Not paying attention to details.

Small details matter much more than one would think. How many times have you been getting ready and noticed a small stain or rip on the shirt you were planning on wearing? If you notice that, then don't wear it! At the time you may think "oh, it's barely noticeable", but it actually is noticeable and can make your outfit look kind of sloppy.

5. Wearing impractical shoes.

Your shoes may be absolutely to die for, but are your feet absolutely dying from them? Even the cutest pair of shoes won't look so cute anymore if you're hobbling down the street in them because you can barely walk. Plan ahead and know what you're doing so you can not only wear the proper outfit, but the proper shoes as well. Always break in your shoes before wearing them for awhile and if you do want to wear a pair of uncomfortable shoes, make sure to bring an extra pair to change into.

6. Wearing ill-fitting clothes.

There is a major difference between and oversized sweater and a sweater that is ill-fitting. Don't make the mistake of wearing clothes that are too big or too small. It will make your outfit look messier and like you don't care about your appearance. For example, if your jeans are too long instead of leaving them all bunched up at your ankles try cuffing them up for a cleaner look.

7. Only wearing sneakers to workout.

Sneakers are not only for working out. Now you can spot fashionistas everywhere wearing sneakers with literally ANYTHING- from mini skirts to maxi dresses or jeans. This is because there are so many different styles of sneakers. You can even get sneaks that have a heel, if that's what you are looking for. Wearing sneakers with your favorite look will definitely amp up your style as well as your comfort level.

How To Be The Best Public Speaker You Can Be

HOW TOBrooke SnyderComment

Public speaking is a big fear for a lot of people in the world. Getting anxious and nervous is 100% normal, but it can be holding you back from reaching your full potential. Keep reading for some tips and tricks to become a master at public speaking!

1. Memorize concepts, not content.

Everyone thinks that if you memorize your exact speech that you want to give, you will give a great presentation. That is far from true. Instead of memorizing a word-for-word speech, focus on the content of your speech. If you're using notecards, create bullet points that you want to make sure you cover throughout the presentation. This will allow you to flow naturally and it will allow room for some "mistakes" without anyone in the audience even noticing.

2. Practice makes perfect.

Practice practice practice. If you don't practice what you want to say, you will most likely get up there and stumble over your own words, repeat things, miss topics, and just not feel comfortable. Know what you are talking about and what you want the audience to walk away with.

3. Know your audience.

Take the time to do a little research about who your audience is. Your speech will be much more effective if you make yourself aware of who you are speaking to.

4. Embrace silence.

If you are nervous, lose your train of thought, or even just need a few seconds to breathe, don't be afraid to pause. This will allow you to calm down a little and gather your thoughts. It is much better to have silence, rather than using filler words like "um", "so", and "like". The audience will view a public speaker as more confident and comfortable if he or she uses this method correctly!

5. Have a strong opening and closing.

In the first 30 seconds of a speech, your audience will have most likely made the decision whether or not they like you and your topic. Therefore, it is insanely important to make those first 30 seconds memorable. This could mean starting with a joke, interesting fact, or a personal story. During the last 30 seconds, or so, of your speech you want to provide the audience with a "call to action". This means- what do you want your audience to take away from your speech and what should they do now?

6. Engage the audience.

When public speaking, you want to make sure your audience is actively listening and engaged with what you have to say. To do this you can allow questions from the audience throughout or even ask the audience to repeat back key messages or ideas. This will allow them to better remember any important points.

Take A Step Out Of Your Fashion Comfort Zone

STYLEBrooke SnyderComment

Everyone has their own comfort zone when it comes to fashion- even it girls like Kendall and Gigi. Ask yourself: Is my comfort zone getting in the way of truly expressing who I am through fashion? If you answered yes, then it's time to branch out and try some new looks. Here are some ways that you can challenge yourself to become your own "it girl".

1. Find inspiration

The very first step to taking that leap out of your comfort zone is to find inspiration. Fashion inspo can be found literally anywhere! Start scrolling through your favorite influencer's or blogger's Instagram feeds, search through magazines, or even just sit outside and people watch. If you want to take it to another level, go ahead and make a mood board of all your favorite looks.

2. Be yourself

Even though you are going to be trying out new looks and trends, make sure you stay true to yourself and what you like. Be sure to wear what you look good in and are comfortable in. Fashion should be fun and daring, yet still represent who you are. This means not to force anything! Let your style unfold on its own. After all, it is a process. One way you can do this is to pair your old favorite pieces with something new and exciting.

3. Confidence is key

A tip for getting more confident with your new looks is to wear them around strangers first. People tend to feel much more self conscious if they are around people they know, due to worrying about what those people would say about their new look. If you still don't feel confident enough around strangers either, then try wearing new items and looks when you're at home. Eventually they will seem more "normal" to you, since you'll be more used to seeing yourself dressed like that. Also, if you are that scared of what people may think then wear a toned-down version of your goal look until you achieve the confidence you need to take the next step forward.

Turn Your Passion Into A Career

LIFESTYLEBrooke SnyderComment

Having a strong passion for something is great, but wouldn't it be even better if you could turn that passion into an actual career? Well, it's time to quit your boring old office job and start making money for doing something that you truly love. Although it certainly will not happen overnight and it also won't come easy, it will be well worth it. Read on for some tips on how to turn that passion into a career!

1. Fall in love with what you want to be doing.

If you are extremely passionate about your side job or hobby rather than your 9-5 job, then it's time to make a change. Work shouldn't feel like work. Your career should be something that will excite you more and more everyday. It should be something that you could talk about and think about for hours on end, regardless of who really cares or is listening. Once you find that passion, you're one step closer to turning into a full-time career.

2. Do your research.

Research is extremely important. Before quitting your 9-5 job right away, make sure that your passion is in fact something that could earn you a living- even if it is not right away. Take the time to sit down and do a lot of research about your future competitors and also the market in which you would be entering.

3. Set goals!

Having tangible goals is by far one of the most important steps. Make sure you have an idea of what it will take to reach your end goal. That will help you come up with smaller, short-term goals. So, create a routine and make sure you dedicate enough time into making this passion of yours into your reality. It is a good idea to set daily, weekly, and monthly goals.

4. Patience is a virtue.

We all would love it if we could be instantly successful overnight, but unfortunately for the majority of us that will not be the case. Whatever you are doing will take a lot of hard work and time out of your day. You may not notice any progress at all for quite some time, but that doesn't mean you should give up. Think realistically how long it should take to reach your end goal. Be prepared for minor setbacks and failures along this journey. So, stay invested in your project and be patient because eventually you will have something to show for all of your hard work.

The Girl Power Series- Shannon Bray

LIFESTYLEBrooke SnyderComment

Time to meet Shannon Bray, an extraordinary  photographer, and find out how she feels about girl power.

1. Tell us a little about yourself & what you do!

I've lived all over the country, but I currently reside in Nashville where I photograph everything from fashion to bands to weddings. I try to spend my free time staying creative with my other half. For me, this year is all about growing and bettering myself.

2. What does "girl power mean to you?

Girl power means everything. We are so blessed to be born women in such a progressive day and age. I've been discriminated against because of my gender on many occasions. It may be harder to be a woman some days, but I love that I have the chance to make a change. Girl power is about doing everything a man can do and doing it better.

3. How can any girl find her own power?

You just have to start out by loving yourself and choosing happiness. I didn't believe in myself for a long time, but one day I woke up, had my morning coffee, and said to myself, "You're going to be so happy! And you're going to be a total fucking girl boss today!" I did it and my career has been soaring ever since. All it took was a little self confidence. Also, I recently shaved my head and it is the most liberating feeling! You gotta learn to love YOU and what you do, not what you look like.

4. Who are your girl power role models?

Can I just list Lena Dunham 100 times? Because Lena Dunham. That woman loves herself (and other women!) SHAMELESSLY - as we should all be doing.

5. If you had to pick one song that represents girl power what would it be?

Your Guide To Face Masks

BEAUTYBrooke SnyderComment

Applying a face mask will instantly make you feel more refreshed, but most people probably aren't applying the correct ones for their skin. They provide a number of benefits, including supplying your skin with important nutrients. When it comes to choosing the best face mask for your skin, it takes a little bit of background knowledge. Luckily for you guys, we did all the research for you!

Mud Masks

Mud masks are a perfect choice if you're looking to remove any excess impurities from your skin, like dirt and oil. They help to naturally exfoliate your face while also moisturizing it slightly. A mud mask is a good choice for those with oilier skin, but you can still use them if you have skin on the drier side. Just make sure to moisturize a little afterwards.

Clay Masks

Clay masks are one of the most popular types of masks, and are remotely similar to mud masks because they are also great at removing excess oil from your skin and getting rid of acne. The clay will actually shrink your skin's pores as well. Although, the clay masks will tend to dry out your skin more, so definitely make sure to moisturize after! Bonus: Clay masks are completely natural!

Peel-Off Masks

A good peel-off mask is beyond perfect for getting rid of those pesky little blackheads. This type of mask removes the outermost layer of your skin, which will produce a much smoother skin texture. After you apply your mask and it dries, when you peel it off it will lift out all of the micro particles of dust and dirt. Peel-off masks also tend to be vitamin, plant, or fruit based. This will give your face that boost of antioxidants that its been searching for!

Sheet Masks

Now their are plain white sheet masks as well as crazy and silly ones with animal faces printed on them. They are for one use only, but will work wonders. These sheets are pre-soaked in a nutrition filled serum that will leave your skin more hydrated than ever. You can also use them up to 3 or 4 times a week, depending on your skin.
